Co-amoxiclav is a drug that is used to treat infections of the lower respiratory tract, otitis media, sinusitis, skin infections and urinary tract infections. It is also used for sore throats and colds. The dosage of Co Amoxiclav varies for children and adults. Common doses of co-amoxiclav include co-amoxiclav 375 and 625.

It is better not to take co-amoxiclav during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Amoxicillin is rapidly excreted in breast milk and its safety during breastfeeding has not been proven yet. Clavulanate is also secreted in milk. Co-amoxiclav should be administered with caution during breastfeeding.

Monitor the patient for signs of hypersensitivity reactions during the treatment with co-amoxiclav.

Co-amoxiclav can be taken before or after food.

Consult your doctor about how many days co-amoxiclav should be taken, though always remember that the course of treatment with this medicine should be completed carefully.

All medicines have possible unwanted side effects along with the therapeutic effect, although not all of these side effects can be seen in the same person. However, if any of them occurred, consult your doctor.

The most serious side effect of co-amoxiclav is diarrhea, in case of which, it is necessary to consult a doctor to continue the treatment.

Feeling weak and lethargic is another common side effect, which is usually caused by long-term use of this medication. The reason for weakness and lethargy is due to the loss of beneficial intestinal bacteria that produce B vitamins in the body.

Another side effect of co-amoxiclav suspension is the possibility of stains on the teeth, which can be removed by brushing.

People who have phenylketonuria should never take co-amoxiclav suspension since it may contain aspartame, which is very dangerous for these patients.

According to the different forms of co-amoxiclav, the recommendations of this drug are administered based on the pharmaceutical form.

After preparing co-amoxiclav suspension (people may know as co-amoxiclav syrup too), the medicine can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 10 days.

For preparation of co-amoxiclav suspension (co-amoxiclav syrup), cooled boiled water should be used. If un-boiled water is used, the antibiotic effect will be lost. First, the powder should be shaken completely so that it is separated and does not stick together, then the boiled water which is cooled is added until the mark line on the container. Finally, shake the glass well to form a suspension. The container of co-amoxiclav suspension should be kept stationary for half an hour, during which the level of the medicine will fall below the target line. Then add some water to it again to return to the specified level. Co-amoxiclav suspension (co-amoxiclav syrup) should be kept in the refrigerator. Shake co-amoxiclav suspension thoroughly before each use. Co-amoxiclav suspension can be used up to a maximum of 14 days after preparation.
